Sticker residue can be frustrating to remove, especially when it's stuck on a valuable item or a delicate surface. The problem with most sticker residue is that it can be very stubborn, requiring more than just soap and water to remove it. Below are proven methods for different surfaces.
Rubbing Alcohol
Apply with a cloth to break down residue, then wipe clean with a damp towel. Ideal for electronics and fabric.
Goo Gone
A dedicated adhesive remover. Spray directly onto the residue and wipe with a cloth. Best for hard surfaces (glass, metal, plastic, wood).
Peanut Butter
The oils help dissolve stickiness. Rub a small amount into the residue, then wipe clean. Works on hard surfaces. For a non-food alternative, use WD-40 or cooking oil (e.g., coconut, olive).
Alternative Products by Surface:
Fabric: Rubbing alcohol, acetone-based nail polish remover, or freeze and scrape.
Electronics: Rubbing alcohol or a microfiber cloth dampened with vinegar.
Hard Surfaces: WD-40, Goo Gone, or cooking oil.
General Use: Soap and warm water, hand sanitizer, white vinegar, baking soda paste (mix with water, apply, wait, wipe), or laundry detergent.
Additional Techniques:
Soak glass items in warm, soapy water overnight.
Use a toothbrush to scrub residue from clothing.
For glass, wood, or walls: Soften residue with a hairdryer (≤30 seconds), then gently scrape off with a putty knife.
Once the residue is removed, the surface is ready for a new sticker.
